The highest award offered by the Armenian Academy of Philosophy — The Grand Medal of David the Invincible was awarded to professor Hans Koechler in Innsbruck, June 11, 2009.
The WPF «Dialogue of Civilizations» congratulates professor Hans Koechler on this high award.
The medal was issued in 1980 by the Armenian Academy of Philosophy to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the birth of David Anacht (David the Invincible).
The sobriquet «Invincible» refers to his intellectual skill in debates with his contenders. He was born in the district of Harq, Taron, in Armenia, educated in Athens, and was a pupil of Olympiodoros at the school of Alexandria. Among his writings are Panegyric on the Cross, Rules of Philosophy, Instructions to Rhetors, Definition of Philosophy, Exegesis of Aristotle, and a translation of The Grammar of Denys the Thracian.
