World Public Forum: Violence has no place in Religion. Call for Dialogue and Reconciliation
The World Public Forum — Dialogue of Civilizations, a Vienna-based international non-governmental organization has issued the following declaration to yesterday’s tragedy in a Viennese Sikh prayer house.
In a statement on the shooting, the chairman of its International Coordination Committee, the former secretary general of the Council of Europe Dr. Walter Swimmer and the director of the Vienna headquarters Diana Orlova, condemned the use of force in the confrontation of religious groups and called for dialogue and reconciliation. Violence can have no place in the relations between different religions, nor within certain religious communities. Rather, the religious communities are called upon to condemn any use of violence and to foster the peaceful coexistence of both their own faith brothers and sisters as well as the nationals of different cultures.
The World Public Forum — Dialogue of Civilizations, which has already organized roundtable on intercultural and interfaith dialogue in Austria, with representatives of various religious communities, and other organizations and representatives of civil society, suggests a neutral ground for the discussion of different viewpoints to the rival groups of the Sikh community and thus to avoid further violence.
