Elena Iakovleva is a specialist in Russian culture and Fine Arts of the twentieth century. She is the doctor of the art criticism, the leading research assistant of the State Russian museum, the professor of drawing chair of The State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Hertsen, the expert on cultural values of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, member of Saint-Petersburg Union of Artists of Russia, member of International Association of Art Critics, member of the international League of protection of culture and also the expert of Scientific Council on Russian Emigration at Committee on External Relations of Saint-Petersburg Government.
The sphere of scientific interests includes the Russian culture and Fine Arts of the twentieth century, the Russian art emigration, art collecting, history of art education, scientific cataloguing of o the fine arts works, the creative activity and art heritage of N.K Roerich, V.I. Shukhaev, A. E. Iakovlev, K.A. Somov and other artists.
Elena Iakovleva is the author of two hundred scientific publications, including the monography “The Theatrical-decorative Art of N.K Roerich” (Samara, 1996). She is also the author of comments to V.I. Shukhaev’s and A. E. Iakovlev’s letters in magazines “ The Soviet Museum” (1989, №2) and “The Art of Leningrad” (1991, № 1 – 2), the author of comments to K.A. Somov’s letters, published in “Year-book of Hand-written department of the Pushkin House for 2002” (Saint-Petersburg, 2006).
She is participant and organizer of numerous scientific conferences, scientific and the editor-in-chief of collections of articles concerning art education, the Russian fine arts and culture of the XX century, the supervisor of dissertational researches.
