Dr. Cunningham holds a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, a Master's from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor's from Queen’s University. She joined Dalhousie University in 2009 as the director of the School of Business Administration, the associate dean of Research for the Faculty of Management and the R.A. Jodrey Chair.
Her research has been published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, the California Management Review and the Journal of International Marketing. She is an executive member of the Concerned Children’s Advertisers board of directors and is a member of the board of Bioniche – one of Canada’s most innovative small biotech firms.
Before joining Dalhousie, she was the E. Marie Shantz teaching professor of Marketing at Queen’s University, where she developed the first business and marketing ethics courses offered within the School. She is a founding member of the Global Social Responsibility Initiative, an active member of the Research Network for Business Sustainability and two working groups associated with the new principles of responsible management education. She has served on the boards of Transparency International (Canada) and the United Way (Kingston).
