A delegation of the Russian St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation participated in prayer “for the Peace of Jerusalem” with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and brought the Holy Fire from Jesus Christ’s Sepulchre to Russia on April 14, 2012.
Every year, fire from heaven miraculously descends on the stone where Christ’s body lay after being taken from the cross.
Almost 10 years ago the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation started to send delegations to Jerusalem to bring the Holy Fire to Moscow every year before Easter.
The head of the delegation chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Vladimir Yakunin says that the fire is brought to Russia by plane in a special container. The rules do not allow transporting open fire in planes, but it goes out in a normal closed vessel because of the drop in atmospheric pressure. Thus, a special container is needed.
“To bring the Holy Fire to Russia was not the only aim of our visit,” Mr. Yakunin said. “We also prayed for peace in the whole world in the holy city of Jerusalem”.
