Vladimir Yakunin Appointed International Adviser to SIIS

Founding President of the WPF “Dialogue of Civilizations” Vladimir Yakunin has been appointed International Adviser to the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies.

The Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) has appointed Vladimir Yakunin a member of its International Advisory Board.

The WPF “Dialogue of Civilizations” and SIIS have a long history of cooperation that includes regular consultations on current issues in cooperation between Russia and China, the joint analysis of economic development models in the Eurasian region, and hosting expert special events including:

  • The conference Russian-Chinese Economic Cooperation in the Transforming World Economic System (2010, Shanghai);
  • The round table Russia and China in the Modern Financial and Economic System (2011, Moscow);
  • A presentation on the Chinese perspective of linking the Silk Road Economic Belt with the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development (TEPR) as part of a general presentation focused on the TEPR to the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (March 2014, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow);
  • The conference The Great Silk Road and the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development – Linking Up (June 2014, Shanghai).
Cooperation between the WPF “Dialogue of Civilizations” and SIIS is ongoing in 2016. A joint conference is scheduled for autumn 2016, and will focus on the transnational development of the Eurasian continent.

The Shanghai Institutes for International Studies was established in 1960 as the Shanghai Institute of International Studies, and is under the auspices of the Government of Shanghai. It is currently the main expert-analytical centre (think tank) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC. According to the ratings of “Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2015”, it ranks 33rd in the world in the field of international relations.
